Solar Pond Pump with Battery Installation using a Pressure Filter

Max was looking for a Solar pond pump with battery backup for his fish and frog pond. He purchased a RSFB1600.

To keep the water quality good, the water is filtered through a 10,000L pressure filter.
With the pump flow rate adjusted to maximum, the flow rate is 1580 LPHour.  If the pump is run with no filter, the pump works for 24 hours with plenty of battery life left.
If the flow was set to medium the pump would possibly run longer. Max believes that if a gravity filter was used the pump would be able to run for 24 hours a day.

This kit includes the pump, fountain nozzles, 2 solar panels and a battery.

Why do you need a battery?

A battery is necessary for night time and overcast weather use when there is no sunlight.

Max purchased a RSFB1600 kit as he wants the pump to operate at night and this pump produces the flow and water turnover that he needs.

The kit includes 5m of cable. An additional 10m of extension cable was purchased. This way the panels and battery were completely out of sight.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT FLOW RATES TIP!

Use a garden hose to do a mock-up of the installation to get a rough idea of what flow you are trying to achieve.

Suggested flow rates:

Wall and table fountains…………………………………… 200 to 300 L/Hr

Small statues up to 400mm high ……………………….. 400 to 500 L/Hr

Medium statues up to 800mm high………………….….. 600 to 750 L/Hr

Large and tiered statues up to 1.5m high………..…… 1000 to 1200 L/Hr

Statues over 1.5m and pond cascades…………………. 1200 to 2000 L/Hr

*Waterfalls and streams up to 0.4m wide…………… 3000 to 4000 L/Hr

*Large waterfalls and streams up to 1.0m wide ….. 6000 to 12000 L/Hr

TIP! Add 20% to required flow rates to allow for friction loss in pipework.
