I need to replace my bore pump motor. What do I need to know?
If you need to replace the submersible motor of your submersible bore pump, Strongman Pumps have a complete range of Franklin submersible motors. Franklin bore pump motors are universal, so they will fit any brand of bore pump wet end.
The first thing you need to know is that the top of the bore pump is called the wet end and the bottom part is the motor. The wet end and the motor bolt together and form the complete bore pump.
If you have your existing bore pump, there will be a model number on the top of the pump and at the bottom of the pump.
The numbers at the top of the pump are for the pump wet end only.
The numbers at the bottom of the bore pump will be for the motor.
Franklin motors are universal, so they will fit any brand of wet end.
Starter boxes for submersible motors
If the motor is a single phase 2-wire, then no starter box is required. However, if the motor is a single phase 3-wire or 3W-PSC, then a starter box will need to be purchased to suit the kw of the motor.
When a complete bore pump and motor combo is purchased from Strongman Pumps, you will receive the starter box as standard. However, if you only purchase the motor, then you will need to purchase the starter box separately. If you need assistance with this, we are more than happy to assist you.

If your motor is not a Franklin motor, then I would contact the manufacturer of the brand to purchase the starter box.
Replacing an old Franklin submersible motor
As Franklin have been making submersible motors for over 60 years, the model numbers on their motors have changed. If you have an old Franklin motor and need to purchase a replacement, please send the numbers to me and I can supply the new numbers for you.
Also, because Franklin have been supplying motors in Australia for over 60 years, there is a good chance that if you pull up a really old bore pump, it will have a Franklin motor.
At Strongman Pumps, we supply the complete range of Franklin 4″ motors as well as the 6″, 8″, 10″ & 12″ motors.
The website only displays the 4″ motors, 6” motors and 8” motors, as these are the most popular.
